Karfo composters utilize our microorganisms to turn food waste into compost in 24 hours, whereas other composters on the market typically require a minimum of 7 days and a bulking agent (carbon source) such as sawdust, wood chips, or paper towels for the food waste to begin composting.
Food waste dehydrators typically require a sewer connection.Karfo' composters do not require a sewer connection because our deodorizers extract and absorb the vapors produced during the composting process. The product from a dehydrator has the same properties as dried food waste and is not recommended for use as a soil amendment. The compost produced by Karfo machines is a nutrient-rich material that can be used in the garden.
The rule of thumb is that anything edible to humans, raw or cooked, can be put into the machine.
Yes, there is a transparency feature onthe machine that heats the unit to at least 160°F (70°C) for 60 minutes to kill 97.3–99.9% of harmful pathogens and bacteria, such as e.coli and Salmonella. Once the clarification process is complete, the compost is safe to use as a fertilizer.
Only soft seafood shells (such as shrimp or prawn shells) should be put into the machine. Do not put lobster, crab, mussel, or clam shells into the machine, as these shells have a high calcium content, cannot be broken down, and may damage the machine.
Yes, if it is a certified compostable product. For example, North American compostable products must display the BPI certification mark. Please note that these products take longer than 48 hours to compost. Compostable items must also not exceed 15% of the daily capacity of the machine.
Any non-organic material, e.g., plastic, glass, metal products. Putting these items into the machine may result in machine damage and malfunction.
Sales
We recommend putting food waste into the machine once a day for ease of operation and waiting a full 24 hours before adding more food waste.
Chicken bones, fish bones and other small bones can be put into the machine; it is not recommended to put in larger pig bones, lamb leg bones, cow bones.
The machine can handle small amounts of yard trimmings, such as grass and leaves. Adding plant roots is not recommended, as they can become entangled in the machine's shaft and blades.
Compost can be used for any horticultural purpose, such as a garden, farm, or potting. If using compost directly from the machine, mix at a ratio of 10:1 (soil:compost) as the compost is very concentrated. Alternatively, the compost can be used directly for horticultural purposes after it has cured for 4 weeks.
YES. Compost can be used directly in the garden or on plants. However, because of its high concentration, it needs to be mixed with soil and applied at a 10:1 ratio (soil:compost). Alternatively, compost can be used directly in horticultural applications after it has cured for 4 weeks.
No. Karfo' composter mimics the natural composting system by using our proprietary bacterial culture to speed up the composting process. It does not emit gray water or produce any harmful gases!
Post-Sales
On average, compost needs to be unloaded from the machine once a week when the machine is at full capacity.
Yes, we recommend annual microbial supplementation to optimize microbial strength.
No. The proprietary microorganisms Karfo uses in its composters are only active at temperatures of 55 °C or higher and require oxygen to survive, so they pose no threat to humans.
We recommend adding water and food waste to the machine.
We recommend adding some shredded paper or paper towels to the machine.
We recommend adding some paper towels, shredded paper, cardboard, or newspaper to the machine.
As no crushing or grinding occurs during the operation, no damage is caused to the compost or the machine. However, the heat generated by the machine can cause deformation of the plastic and may release undesirable substances into the compost, so we recommend a strict distinction between compostable and non-compostable items to avoid such situations.
Typically, 97.3–99.9% of pathogens are eliminated when compost is heated to 62–65 °C for 30 minutes or more, while Creeks' machines run for 15 hours or more at 55–70 °C. Creeks recommends sanitizing compost before using it. Also, check local regulations for compost sterilization standards.
About 10 to 15 percent of organic waste is converted to compost.
